The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially
announced the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections in five states — Assam,
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. The
announcement marks the beginning of an intense political season as parties
prepare for one of the most important democratic exercises in the country.
Polling Dates Announced
According to the election schedule released by the
commission, voting in most states will take place in April 2026. The
elections will be conducted in multiple phases to ensure smooth and secure
voting across all constituencies.
Assam – April 9, 2026
Kerala – April 9, 2026
Puducherry – April 9, 2026
Tamil Nadu – April 23, 2026
West Bengal – Two phases on April
23 and April 29, 2026
The counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026, after which the results will determine the formation of new governments in these states.
