Nepal Floods: Death Toll Surges Past 550, Nearly 1,000 Missing

Rescue teams race against time as devastating floods and landslides leave thousands affected across Nepal

Kathmandu: Nepal is battling a major flood disaster after devastating floods and landslides struck several parts of the country. The death toll has crossed 550, while nearly 1,000 people are reported missing.

The worst-hit areas include Rasuwa district and regions near the Nepal-China border, where huge volumes of water, mud and debris caused widespread destruction.

Homes, roads and bridges have been washed away, severely disrupting transport and rescue operations. Nepal\'s army and security forces are using helicopters and other resources to rescue stranded people and search for those missing.

More than 90,000 people are estimated to have been affected, with emergency teams providing food, shelter and medical assistance.

Authorities have warned of further flooding in some areas as water levels continue to rise. Search-and-rescue operations remain underway, and officials expect the casualty figures to change as teams reach isolated areas.
